Mr Li Zhaoxing
Mr Li Zhaoxing studied in the Peking University from 1959 to 1964, and obtained MA at Beijing Foreign Studies University in 1967.
He was a staff member of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs from 1967 to 1968. Since 1970, he worked as staff member and then attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and was assigned to the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P. R. China in 1977. After a tour as First Secretary in the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Lesotho from 1983 to 1985, he returned to the Information Department of the Ministry, becoming both Director-General and Spokesman from 1985 to 1990.
He served as Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1993, Permanent Representative of Chinese Mission and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations from 1993 to 1995, and Vice Minister from 1995 to 1998.
He was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of P. R. China to the United States from 1998 to 2001, and Foreign Minister from 2003 to 2007. He is a member of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 11th NPC; Honorary President of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs; and President of China International Friendship Association since 2008. |
