“Asia in Restructuring: Vision and Action of Youth”
2015 Boao Youth Forum for Asia (Hong Kong), widely regarded as one of the most representative and prospective fora in Asia co-organized by Boao
Forum for Asia and the Y.Elites Association, took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 20-21 May. 2015
With the theme of “Asia in Restructuring: Vision and Action of Youth”, up over 30 prominent leaders in politics, economics and culture to explore new
opportunities from the processes of fostering regional cooperation in Asia with promising young people across the region.
Dignitaries officiated the opening ceremony of the Forum include Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Zhang
Xiaoming, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary-General of Boao Forum
for Asia; Mr. Zhou Bo, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council; Ms. Tong Xiaoling, Deputy Commissioner
of the Commissioner’s Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR; Mr. Chen Lin, Director General of Youth Department, Liaison Office of the
Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Deng Zhonghan, Vice President of All-China Youth Federation; and Mr. Clarence Leung, Advisor of
Organizing Committee of 2015 Boao Youth Forum for Asia (Hong Kong) and Chairman of The Y.Elites Association.
Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR, stated, Asia is a platform for the young generation in Hong Kong and across
the world to unleash their potential. As a youth of Hong Kong, they should utilize the advantage and impetus created under the rapid development
of China, and to seize the opportunities brought by economic development in Asia Pacific region.”
Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, Mr. Zhang Xiaoming shared his three views of Hong Kong youth on
how they could embrace the changes and opportunities of current era: “Firstly, they need to have long-sight, not only focus on Hong Kong, but also
with its positing with the big picture along with China and the world; Secondly, Hong Kong youth should have a generous mind and should be open
minded about the one country two systems in the picture of the whole country. Lastly, Hong Kong youth should enhance themselves and excel, the
chance is given to someone who catch opportunity.
Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia, stated Youth is the synonym of innovation because young people are good at
breaking stereotypes and thinking outside the box. This is the era that requires innovation, and we need more youth who possesses innovative spirit.
Mr. Clarence Leung, Advisor of Organizing Committee of the 2015 Boao Youth Forum (Hong Kong) and Chairman of The Y.Elites Association, he
hope distinguished speakers and young people together to exchange and learn from each other through the Forum. Also, the Forum will help young
people to understand the Asian economic trend under global uncertainty and find out the breakthrough in the development bottleneck by discussion.
The Forum, consisting of a keynote speech session and two panel discussions. The keynote speech session presented by H.E. Professor Dr. Surakiart
Sathirathai, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Board Member of Boao Forum for Asia; Professor K C Chan, Secretary for Financial
Services and the Treasury of the HKSAR; Dr. Charles E. Morrison, President of the East-West Center. And the theme of two panel discussions were
“The age of Asian innovation - creative talents and innovative culture” and “Outlook of the Global Economy in 2015: New Market Environment faced
by Asian Enterprises”. The prestigious speakers including Professor Tony Chan, President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology;
Professor K C Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the HKSAR; Dr. Florence Eid-Oakden, CEO and Chief Economist of Arabia
Monitor; Mr. Richard Kelly, Chief Catalyst, Fung (1937) Management; Mr. Ming Wai Lau, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Chinese Estates
Holdings Limited and Chairman of Commission on Youth; Dr. Charles E. Morrison, President of the East-West Center; Mr. Joe Ngai, Director and
Managing Partner of McKinsey’s Hong Kong Office and Bob XU, Founding & Managing Partner of ZhenFund and more.
