Mr. Ko Chi Sum Clifton
Mr. Ko has been the producer of Spring-Time Stage since 1995. His works include I have a date with Spring, Mad Phoenix, Sentimental Journey, Butterflies are free, Jubilee, The Vagina Monologues, Dying Young, A Mui Live, and She came from Beijing. These outstanding productions revolutionized the way commercial dramas operated in Hong Kong. They also made Spring-Time Stage the flagship theatre group in the local commercial drama industry.
Apart from drama productions, Mr. Ko has also produced various variety shows and events. He produced the 17th Hong Kong Film Awards, which was televised and became the most viewed Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony in history. He also produced Concer t Below Lion Mountain by WONG, JAMES in 2003, the Art and Cultural Night for China’s National Day in 2005 and the first concer t held in Asia World Expo Chan Po Chu + HKCO in 2006.
Mr. Ko is currently permanent honorary president of the Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild. After Hong Kong returned to Chinese sovereignty, he became a member in a whole range of organizations, including the Centre for Cultural Policy Research of the University of Hong Kong, the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education of the Home Affairs Bureau, the advisory board for TV programmes in RTHK, the advisory board of west Kowloon development, art and tourism division, the performing ar t committee of the Home Affairs Bureau, which is responsible for Hong Kong’s cultural policy, Hong Kong Tourism Board and the advisory board for the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme in the Immigration Department of Hong Kong.
Mr. Ko became an honorary professor of Hebei University, China, in 2005. In 2006, he was even awarded with the HKSAR Medal of Honor from the government for his contribution in developing the local drama industry. In 2007, he was elected as a committee member representing the ar ts and culture sector of the Election Committee for Chief Executive with the most votes. He was also invited to par ticipate in the 7th National Congress of the Dramatists’ Council of China. In the same year, he was honorably invited to give a speech in the 2nd Forum on Arts for Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. All these prove his ideas on the policies for culture and ar ts to be widely approved within the ar t industry.
