In April 2010, after the well-received 2009 Boao Youth Forum (Hong Kong), the Boao Forum for Asia and the Y. Elites Association join together and organize the 2010 Boao Youth Forum (Hong Kong). The Boao Youth Forum is becoming one of the trade-mark forums and a pride of Hong Kong.
While the 2009 Boao Youth Forum focused on the responses of China to the financial crisis, the 2010 Boao Youth Forum focuses on Opportunities and Challenges – Asia’s Development on its Road to Recovery.
In the recovery process of the post-financial crisis era, Asia countries are facing many opportunities and challenges, and are reflecting on their monetary policies and economic models. Over-reliance on virtual economies, depletion of natural resources, and environmental costs are causes of unsustainable growth. Environmental protection and low-carbon economies are the common trends of economic development and the countries are working towards a win-win situation.
Trade protectionism, aggressive monetary policies and competitions over energy and resources are some of the most prevailing challenges facing the World’s economic recovery and its harmony. Asian countries and the global communities have to work together in order to face these challenges.
In this 2010 Boao Youth Forum, we take the viewpoint of the youths, and we hope through this Forum we shall work towards a more harmonic and better future for Asia and the World.
